Does anyone know how safe it is for pregnant women to consume chicory root? I started drinking Plum Smart juice (for digestive issues) which is not as nasty as prune juice. The problem is that it contains Chicory Root in it, which after doing a little reading on it on the net, it doesn't sound like pregnant women should be consuming it, or I found it's in the "unsure category". It has a natural laxative effect but I guess it promotes menstruation as well which obviously isn't good during pregnancy. Should I not worry about drinking this since I'm not consuming Chicory Root in large doses or completely avoid it? Thanks! |

for what it is worth
Magnesium is safe in pregnancy, but most sources state that one should not self treat constipation in pregnancy. And my source also said that chicory is possibly unsafe in pregnancy for the same reason you listed above. Psyllium is also generally effective and safe.
