Chicory Root during Pregnancy

Does anyone know how safe it is for pregnant women to consume chicory root?  I started drinking Plum Smart juice (for digestive issues) which is not as nasty as prune juice.  The problem is that it contains Chicory Root in it, which after doing a little reading on it on the net, it doesn't sound like pregnant women should be consuming it, or I found it's in the "unsure category".   It has a natural laxative effect but I guess it promotes menstruation as well which obviously isn't good during pregnancy.  Should I not worry about drinking this since I'm not consuming Chicory Root in large doses or completely avoid it?  Thanks!

The seed is sometimes used to bring on menstruation while the root aids in digestion. Because Chicory contains inulin (it makes you pee) in some cases it may not be a good idea to take during pregnancy because of dehydration, dehydration can lead to contractions.

i really like how you mapped out how the herb may be insuitable for pregnancy. i am taking anatomy and physiology and this is how i would see explanations for chemicals and their reactions. hah okay sorry i just liked how you followed through with the explanation of it.

Thank you that means a lot ! I think it is important to know why something does what it does. If you know the major chemicals and their actions in an herb you can better know how and why it effects you :) There may be other explanations for why not to use it but that is the only one I could come up with.

Thank you. Well, maybe if it's the root then (and not the seed), it's okay? I try to keep myself really hydrated by drinking plenty of water too.

for what it is worth

Magnesium is safe in pregnancy, but most sources state that one should not self treat constipation in pregnancy. And my source also said that chicory is possibly unsafe in pregnancy for the same reason you listed above. Psyllium is also generally effective and safe.
